Rochester is one of my favourite characters of all time. Unbelievably HOT and HILARIOUS. His thwartatious and prickish ways are truly irresistable.

Im up to where Rochester and Jane have just met, when he fell off his horse. She is so inquisitve our Jane. You would think that after the violent upbringing she had, she would prefer a quiet life in adulthood, but she continually throws herself into sticky and scary situations. She seems to like the fear dont you think?

Firstly I have not seen this version. Bring it on! The book is something I have to get back to again, as of now! Rochester from memory is annoying.

No Fifi, Rochester is hilarious, and hurt. All his gruffness is just a coverup. He has a really dry sense of humour. You need to go and hire this version.....its by far the best ive seen, though Im thinking of getting out the one with William Hurt for a laugh.....

I am peeved. The only version my dvd shop has is one from 1973, which I am sure is magnificent, however I would like to see the version you are talking about. when was it made so I can chase it up?

Ok , I found the version here, and let me tell you all that I have well and truly been Rochestered! How good was this version! My only complaint is that Bertha was not quite mental enough for my liking -if you are going to put a lunatic in a film then make her a bit more looney (i.e. not a hot chick in a nightie).

I just watched the Zefferelli version...William Hurt as Rochester and Charlotte Gainsbourgh as Jane. I have to say that I really like it! i remember seeing it at the movies 1995. Bertha is certainly not attractive, and mostly mad....her laughs are very maniacal. Charlotte Gainbourgh really surprised me. I really felt her pain.

William Hurt was a weird choice. Now his accent is great, and he pulled off the romantic scenes really well. A little more hair would have been nice though.

Watch for Elle Mcphearson as Blanche Ingrim, its a bit of a cringe.

Joan Plowright plays Mrs Fairfax, shes awsome as she is iin everything she does... if you want this one, Ill send it to you, just email me your address.

I liked that version. Bertha was sufficiently ugly and a pyromaniac, which pleased me no end.
Charlotte Gainsborough - her mouth drove me insane, or maybe it was the way she talked. Either way I wanted Bertha to set fire to her.
Hurt was surprisingly good. Although I agree with you on the hair issue, it looks like he has about three strands of hair that are matted together. Maybe Bertha put something in his hair gel.
